Big Bear is a centrally located destination in Southern California, right in between Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas. Big Bear Lake is staying cool during this heat wave with lots of rain in our beautiful mountain town. Whether you like concerts, gold mining, hiking, swimming, bar hopping, Big bear has whatever your heart desires! Every weekend, there are all types of events and shows going on. You can go enjoy a local band in one of our bars down town, or you can rock out to a national act at The Cave’s state of the art concert venue. You can go wine and beer tasting, or conquer one of the hundreds of hiking trails we have throughout the valley and mountain ranges. This blog is meant to show you what is going on this weekend so you can make the most out of your trip to Big Bear!

Faster Pussycat

Hollywood sleaze rockers Faster Pussycat made their mark in the world with a self-titled debut in 1987 and the 1989 gold album Wake Me When It’s Over, which spawned the hit single and video “House of Pain.”

The band originally formed in 1985, famously taking its name from the Russ Meyer oult film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! During their early commercial peak the band line-up was Taime Downe (vocals), Greg Steele (guitar), Brent Musoat (guitar), Kelly Nickels (bass) and Mark Michals (drums).

Prior to the band’s break-up in 1992, Downe had already been working with the ground breaking industrial collective Pigface. After Pussycat, he formed the darkly brilliant Newlydeads, along with Kyle Kyle (Bang Tango). A Newlydeads self-titled LP appeared in 1997. They released a remix project called Re-Bound shortly thereafter and Dead End in 2001. That same year Downe resurrected a rock-driven, more evolved Faster Pussycat with original members Muscat (guitar_ and Steele (guitar) playing alongside Newlydeads Xristian Simon (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), and Chad Stewart (drums)

Berlin feat Terri Nunn

This Los Angeles-based synth pop group, founded by bassist John Crawford, singer Terri Nunn, and keyboard player David Diamond, made its first national impression with the provocative single “Sex (I’m A…)” from the gold-selling debut EP Pleasure Victim in 1982. The group was filled out by guitarist Rick Olsen, keyboard player Matt Reid, and drummer Rob Brill. Berlin’s first full-length LP was the gold Love Life in 1984. In 1985, the group was pared down to a trio of Crawford, Nunn, and Brill. Berlin topped the charts in 1986 with the single “Take My Breath Away,” the love theme from the Tom Cruise movie Top Gun.

Nunn left for a solo career in 1987, and Crawford and Brill teamed up in the Big F. In 1999, the band reunited to record some new studio material and also performed a concert, which, along with the new songs, was released as 2000’s Berlin Live: Sacred and Profane. This was followed a year later by a flurry of recording sessions that included co-writing tracks with Billy Corgan, among others. The end result, Voyeur, was their first full-length studio release in over 15 years.
